Wooden Wine Racks

Wooden wine racks provide the best storage system for a large collection, cheaply and efficiently. They are easy to assemble, sturdy, stackable, and attractive. You can easily purchase more cubes as your collection expands.

The array of wine racks available these days is amazing. For many people, wine has become more than just a hobby.

Because of this, wooden wine racks have become popular, and several metal wine racks are available. With elegant shapes, modern or traditional looks, and interesting placement ideas, metal wine racks can be considered works of art in their own right.

But, if you are more of a traditionalist you will want to use wooden wine racks. Treasured wines have been successfully stored for centuries in racks made of woods like pine, mahogany, and oak.

Wooden racks can have some advantages over metal alternatives, such as being stackable. This allows you to start with a small collection and seamlessly add more rack space as your wine collection grows.

Because wood does not conduct heat, this is another advantage over metal. Obviously, allowing heat to reach your wine bottles is not a good thing.

On the other hand, if you're not expecting to keep your wine for a long time, metal wine racks would be fine, especially if you want an artistic wine rack that you can display prominently as a conversation piece. Metal wine racks can add a sleek and classy feel to any setting.

Many high-quality wooden wine racks can be used as a prominent feature of a bar. Often made of mahogany or oak, these bars allow for a serving counter, as well as ample storage.

Many of these racks cost around $500 and can hold 50 to 100 bottles. If you buy online, shipping will cost around $100, so keep an eye out for free shipping deals.

Still another option is a wine tower. These let you keep your wine organized, store glasses on shelves, and they are ideal for tight spaces. Many of these cost over $300, depending on quality.

If your wine collection is an investment, store your wine in a climate controlled environment. You can either buy a wine cooler (they come in many sizes), or you can cool the entire wine cellar.

How you store wine, however, is not as important as where you store wine. Any wine rack -- whether it is wood or metal, large or small -- should be kept in a cool, dark, slightly humid area. Keep a consistent temperature between 50 and 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Never put the wine rack in the sun or heat.

Basements and closets make excellent storage spaces. Lastly, it's a good idea to keep a record of your wines so you know when to open a perfectly aged bottle.
