Choosing Shower Curtains and
Shower Curtain Rods

Shower curtains and shower curtain rods provide an inexpensive alternative to sliding shower screens over bathtubs, or glass shower doors. Bonus - curtains are much easier to clean and maintain.

Shower curtains are available in an endless selection of patterns, designs, and colors. The whole idea is to make the curtain conform to the decorative scheme of the bathroom.

Possibilities include, country, beachy, birds, florals, etc. I'm sure you get the idea. Take your time and check out what's available without driving yourself crazy.

A well chosen shower curtain will enhance your bathroom's image and complete the desired look. Many are made of a one-piece plastic material, but many more are fabric, and must be purchased with a plastic liner. Most are machine washable.

Shower curtains single-handedly can transform the look of a bathroom. Try to make your shower curtain conform to the colors of your towels and throw rugs. This will give you a coordinated, flowing appearance.

Since these curtains get wet every day, they can develop mold over time. An easy way to minimize this, and to prolong the life of your shower curtain, is to keep it spread out when not in use. This allows the air to get to it, and it displays the design, which will add to the look and feel of the room.

Hookless shower curtains are available on the internet (not likely to find them in stores). They are growing in popularity and come in many patterns. Go to Hookless shower curtains for more information about these.

Shower Curtain Rods

There are several types of curtain rods. Your choice should be based on the layout of your bath and shower area, and the look you want to achieve. Tension rods are a good way to hang shower curtains without having to drill holes into the ceramic tiles.

These work on a spring-loaded device allowing them to fit between two walls without needing screws. They are available in several lengths. Curved shower curtain rods are perfect for an oval bathtub, or if you want to create an illusion of more space while showering.

These curtain rods are available in a few standard finishes - brass plated, satin chrome, nickel plated, or gold.

In addition, you can buy colored sleeves which cover the rod, and are available in many more solid colors. You should be able to find the color which bests suits your room.
