Uses For Outdoor Storage Cabinets

The increased popularity of outdoor storage cabinets has been caused by the recent trend toward greater outdoor comfort and style. Cushions, kitchen equipment, tools for the grill, gardening tools, as so on, all have to be stored someplace.

Our dads put tools on hooks and didn't need much else. But they sat on wooden picnic benches and had a roll-away charcoal grill. Today, many people are investing in outdoor storage cabinets so that they have convenient places to put patio dishes, cooking condiments, cooking utensils, and seat cushions.

So, in addition to the traditional table and chairs, you can now have storage benches which double as seating, storage cabinets for pool equipment, cabinets which will keep your garbage away from nocturnal animals, outdoor trash bins, towel bins, an array of various kitchen storage cabinets, and recycling containers, just to name a few.

Obviously, what these cabinets are made of is critical to how they stand up to various weather conditions. Any outdoor cabinets should be made of material that won't absorb moisture, which would cause splitting, cracking, and rotting. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is a good candidate.

There are several brand names that make cabinet exteriors out of this. Some companies even make it out of recycled materials. For more information about these products, I recommend a visit to Outdoor Design Studio.

Another option is to buy cabinets which have been covered with protective coatings to repel moisture. When shopping, be sure to ask if the surface is UV resistant. The sun can erode a finish is a couple of years.

Since these cabinets are outside, locks would be a good idea. Most of the outdoor storage cabinets you will see are free-standing. In my opinion, this adds to their flexibility and usefulness. They're easily moveable, and many of them will fit in garages, around pools, in the corner of a patio, in (or next to) sheds, or wherever you need them.

Most of the free-standing variety can be bought for a few hundred dollars. The custom cabinets, usually associated with an outdoor kitchen, are going to run you much more.
