Garage Storage Cabinet

A garage storage cabinet can store and organize a variety of things. They can free up other cabinets in the house, and possibly eliminate the need for a shed. Garages are not just used to park cars.

Many men work on hobbies in the garage. People also use their garage as a quiet place where they can be alone with their thoughts while they're tinkering with something mechanical.

The garage is usually endowed with lots of space. It often has enough height that you can add rafters and create an "attic" or "loft" which will hold more storage than you probably need.

Many new homes today are built with 3 garage doors. Most families have 2 cars, and use the third door for a workshop, garden center, and storage area.

If space is not plentiful, use the height by building some framing higher than the front of your cars. That way the car can be pulled in below the framing and you still have plenty of height to use for your garage storage cabinet.

You won't even need the framing if you use cabinets you can hang on the wall. This will also take care of the problem of uneven floors. Most garage floors slope outward for drainage.

So cabinets that sit on the floor would have to be leveled. If you can't avoid having a cabinet on the floor, put it on wheels that lock. That way you can move it, but it won't roll by itself.

Your garage storage cabinet doesn't have to be fancy. Most are made of particleboard, but could also be metal or plastic. Many people use their old kitchen cabinets in the garage when they renovate the kitchen.

If you use particleboard, you'll want to cover it with laminate, or humidity will penetrate the particleboard and make it swell, ruining the cabinet.

Many tools and other items kept in a garage can be hung. Hooks and racks are cheaper than cabinets, and can be used in combination. This will add flexibility and be more useful, while lowering cost.

You can also find hooks or hangers that hang from the ceiling - for things like bicycles or kayaks - but make sure they're screwed into a joist and not just sheetrock. This will free up a lot of floor space.

You can also find racks for athletic equipment (such as bats, balls, gloves, nets, rackets, etc.), but anything you prefer to keep clean should be stored in a cabinet. In addition, anything hazardous (like chemicals and pesticides) should be kept in a cabinets and out of the reach of children.

Another option is to use open shelving instead of cabinets. This would also reduce costs. The overall idea is to get rid of the clutter. Clutter takes up space, so if you're short on space, a garage storage cabinet and rack will actually save space and make it easier for you to find things when you need them.
