Faucet Reviews
These faucet reviews should give you the information you need to make the right selection for your home. When it comes to faucets, the one thing all homeowners agree on is that they want something that lasts and requires little (if any) maintenance.
There are three criteria you should use in choosing: finish, style, and price. Price typically is not very important in determining how well a faucet will work.
The top selling brand names are Delta, Kohler, Moen and American Standard. This could be because the lines are reasonably priced and the styles are relatively basic. Of these four, Moen has a history of needing more repairs than the other three.
Two handle models allow you to adjust water temperature better. Single handle kitchen faucets, also known as center-set, work from a top or side mounted lever or knob.
These will usually have pull-out spouts, which can be a source for future leaks because the hoses crack eventually and the fittings loosen. Two-handle models are harder to use if your hands are full, but the faucet reviews we saw indicated that consumers preferred these to single handle models.
Common finishes include satin chrome, polished chrome, stainless steel, satin nickel, and bronze. Consider spout styles and function. Styles include goosenecks, pull-out faucets and straight-swivel-spouts.
The most important issue to think about for your kitchen faucet is how to fill a large pot. Is the faucet high enough? Will it be out of the way when I place large items into the sink?
No matter what type of faucet you choose, make sure the faucet head swings enough to reach all of the sink, especially if you have a wide or double-bowl model. Also keep the faucet proportional. A large sink looks funny with a small faucet, and vice versa.
Consumer Reports reviewed 16 brand name faucet lines and published kitchen faucet reviews as well as bathroom faucet reviews. The overall winner was Price Pfister.
They offer unique designs with a variety of finishes and faucet features for both kitchens and baths. They got very high marks for reliability as well.
Peerless Faucets are more basic is style, but work just as well as any other brand. Their classic center-set bath faucets are well known for quality and the Classic Kitchen Pull-Out Faucet for $138 can't be beat for performance.
Two other manufacturers that received good marks were Sheryl Wagner and Grohe. Sheryl Wagner has many high-design models which are a bit pricey, but if the budget allows the freedom of design, they make a good product.
Grohe is reasonably priced for a non-American manufacturer, with many nice styles and features. The only down side to Grohe is that parts might be harder to find than parts for American brands. Grohe has a line of showerheads which set the highest standard.
