Concrete Floor Covering
Have you thought about the type of concrete floor covering to use in your basement or garage? Most people consider flooring which is typically used in interior living spaces. Linoleum and ceramic tile seem to be popular choices.
On this page I am suggesting two other alternatives which are functional, durable, and easy to maintain. Rubber and epoxy flooring should be options you consider for concrete floor covering.

RUBBER FLOORS
This is a good, multi-functional surface. Rubber floors hide dirt, dust and footprints. They reduce noise, and absorb shock. Most rubber floors dome in darker colors, like black or gray. You can find both recycled rubber and virgin rubber options.
Rubber floors come in a variety of patterns and textures, both as mats, and as tiles. If your basement or garage doubles as a home work-out area, rubber floors are less likely to be damaged by your equipment, and won't show indentations like carpet will.
The maintanence of rubber floors is practically non-existent. Just wipe it down and walk away.
EPOXY FLOORING
Epoxy flooring is more expensive than rubber - mainly because the installation is more involved. This is a multi-step process very similar to terrazzo flooring. When finished, you have a hard surface that looks a lot like terrazzo, or quartz (depending on the pattern you select).
Epoxy flooring protects floors from both moisture and salt, which can wear away concrete. This is a concrete floor covering that offers both fashion and function.
There are vitually unlimited color combinations to choose from. This allows you to customize your floor to coordinate with any color scheme. The texture of the floor can be as rough or smooth as you like, so you can select the non-skid level of the floor.
Traditionally, epoxy floors had an odor that lingered for several days, and epoxy would emit VOCs for a few months. There is now a water-based formula which doesn't smell, and some newer formulas have eliminated the VOCs. But many options still have them, so make sure you know what you're getting.
Cleanup of epoxy flooring couldn't be easier. They are resistant to just about everything, so there's no reason to worry about staining or erosion. Wash it with whatever you would use on linoleum, and let it dry.
