The Best Kitchen Sink

This article about The Best Kitchen Sink For You was submitted by Charlotte Cook of Wren Kitchens in the United Kingdom. We thank her for submitting information that helps our visitors make better decisions.

Whether we like it or not, the sink is one of the most important features of any kitchen in a modern household and that includes such features as the kitchen units and cabinets.

If you are designing a new kitchen, or simply want to replace your old sink which has seen better days, here are a few tips on picking one that is right for you.

Choosing the right material for your sink is the most important decision you have to make. Stainless steel has always been a popular choice. It can be found in 70% of homes, and for good reason.

As with steel countertops, this material is durable, heat resistant, and easy to keep clean, which makes it extremely suitable for a kitchen sink.

These are available both insulated and non-insulated (which are cheaper). The insulated sinks don't make that "tinny" noise when pans and plates are moved on the surface.

Textured or matt finished steel is better than a polished surface, which tends to show up scratches that can easily occur when cleaning pots and pans.

Synthetic sinks are becoming more and more popular, as they can be manufactured to the size and colour you desire.

This material is made of a compound of different plastics and natural stone, which result in a durable material that does not scratch easily.

Also, if you have always wanted a granite sink but cannot afford the huge cost that it entails, a synthetic material can be made to look just like the real deal, but without the price tag.

Ceramic sinks are a classic look that can be found in both traditional and modern kitchens. Their glazed look bounces light around the sink area and once again it’s a practical material for durability and hygiene reasons.

Alternatively, a wooden sink could really make your kitchen stand apart from the rest, with a natural look. Teak is the timber that is used which does not allow bacteria to grow on its surface and will also make soaking plates and pans a much quieter chore.
