If you have your cabinet custom made, you can have refrigerated units built in, and you can have the dimensions perfectly suited to the wall.

Store bought units will be much cheaper, but won't offer the flexibility of design.

If you have children in the house, you'll want the liquor up high, and/or behind locked doors.

If you don't want to dust many bottles and glasses, put them behind doors.

If you have pretty items you would like to display, use glass panels in a few of the doors.

Liquor bottles come in different heights. Make sure the storage compartments have ample space, and if there's a shelf, it should be adjustable, not fixed.

You'll save money if you just buy the size you need. Figure out what you need before you shop. You'll eventually fill any size cabinet - mostly with stuff you don't want or need. But why have things in the cabinet that you'll never use. Your choice, of course (that's just me).

If you're tight for space, consider a corner cabinet with a small bar in front. Another option is to have the service counter top as part of the back bar unit, eliminating the need for a separate bar; or just have a rolling cart for your bar.

Bar cabinets are very easily personalized. The bottles, glasses and accessories tell a lot about who you are. Add some cocktail lamps, and maybe a sign? This could be casual or formal, but however you add the finishing touches, the bar will be a place where you and your guests will pass many pleasant hours.
