Antique Hardware
Antique hardware comes from furniture, windows, doors, trunks and other objects. Much of it is made of brass, but silver, bronze, pewter and metal composites were sometimes used.
These antique knobs, pulls, feet, locks, latches and hinges were both functional and decorative. Furniture and architectural elements are more complete and of more value when the hardware is polished and restored.

Antique Hardware for Doors
Antique door knobs make consistent statements of style in older homes, and they add an interesting touch to newer homes. Purchasing authentically old door knobs can pose problems, however. The door hardware may not work if it is too old, for example, or people’s fingers may even get stuck.
Luckily, there are door knobs that look antique, but are actually new. And some people might not even know the difference between real antiques and the designer copies.
Since it can be difficult to find a full set of working antique door knobs for the whole house, manufacturers now produce beautiful copies of antique doorknobs. This door hardware is preferable because it’s easier to install, it will last longer, and it’s possible to find replacements if one breaks.
There is a great variety of door knobs to choose from today that look very similar to authentic pieces from the turn-of-century, Victorian era and many other popular periods.
Things To Think About
There are some decisions that one should make before purchasing door hardware, such as whether the style should conform to the rest of the house, or simply coordinate with the door. There are also many materials to choose from, including brass, iron, wood and glass.
There are antique door knobs in all of these popular materials, but finding them in an antique shop or flea market may prove impossible, especially a matching set. While it is possible to find one authentically antique doorknob to create a funky eclectic look, finding a set of old doorknobs to coordinate with the entire home may be impossible.
Antique Hardware for Cabinets
A common antique style of cabinet can have a face frame with a brushed or a polished brass finish, and hardware complimenting the same. Antique copper, polished chrome, polished sterling, nickel, or aged bronze are some finishes used to complete a traditional and antique piece.

From the wide range of antique pieces of hardware available in the market, you can choose a decorative cast-iron vernacular cabinet latch, or slide-style cabinet latch. These are made of solid brass and are among the most decorative features of vintage furniture. They add a classic look to the furniture.
Suppliers of antique hardware boast of the uniqueness of the pieces they carry. They pick up these pieces from various places and try to collect a genuine antique piece. They hunt for genuine antiques from auctions, demolitions, and the like and, since these pieces are rare and much in demand, the prices are kept high.
Since an original antique piece is expensive, these suppliers sometimes make and sell reproductions. These kinds of piece are available in market and are bought by many people as the prices are much lower than the original piece. However, when purchasing an antique piece, one should make sure it is authentic.
Antique brass cabinet pulls might be what you're looking for in your kitchen or family room if your decor is classical. Antique brass is not the shiny brass that most of us think of when we hear the word.
It is more muted in tone, and has less of a gloss. It is usually highlighted with "tarnish," especially in the crevices of the design.
